Being a Soft Autumn
Like all the Autumn seasons, there is a bit of the desert in the warm neutral Soft Autumn. It’s more of the high desert in the hills, though, with sage green of scrub oak contrasting beautifully with warm reddish-brown rocks and tan dirt. Cadet blue and hazy purple are warmer than their Soft Summer neighbors. Pinks are salmon, or with hints of terra cotta. Greens range from sage and soft teal to the color of fresh olives. The camel coat suits this season, as do other nutty browns or ecru.
Autumn humans can be reliable doers, but the Soft Autumn version sometimes feels more approachable and huggable. Snuggle up under cable knit blankets or drape a soft paisley woolen shawl over your shoulders, with worn suede boots below. Flannel and chamois were made for you, Soft Autumn. Denim is best as medium in darkness, and it can have a little brown at its base. Faded soft-black jeans work, too. Suede accessories or clothing capture the softness, as do pashmina, corduroy, and velveteen. Contrast them with softened satin, linen, or cotton knit.
In leather goods, warm tan or reddish brown work well. For jewelry, green jade and burnished rose gold capture the feel of Soft Autumn, as does tiger eye and silver or light gold, or tumbled beads on strips of brown suede. Turquoise with coral is perfect.
Unlike the other three larger season groups, Autumns can wear the warm, desert-y eyeshadows, like tan, reddish brown, and cinnamon. Just mind that the salmon colors don’t start looking like you’ve been rubbing your eyes in a tired state. Warm lavender can bring out the green or amber in irises. Brown-black mascara is better than black. Salmon pinks and cinnamon colors work well on cheeks and lips.
